'Competent Person' (CP)

The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations require Employers to appoint a CP from within the organisation if possible otherwise an external person such as myself.

Generally when I carry out Health & Safety work for Companies I then become their Competent Person, with a signed certificate issued if required, my only stipulation being that the Company agrees to use me for Annual Health & Safety Audits, usually at a fixed cost. This Audit ensures that the Company is updated on new legislation etc. and documentation is reviewed and revised as necessary.

Risk Assessments are split into 2 main categories:

Specific Risk Assessments include:

Several Health & Safety Laws require specific risk assessments against certain criteria that may be in the body of the law itself or more probably in an Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and/or guidance notes. Most of these Laws, ACOPS and Guidance can be downloaded free of charge from the HSE website.

All potential hazards must be risk assessed by employers & self-employed under the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations.
